Festival de Medellín se ha convertido en un ícono mundial

¡Saludos desde Katmandú, Nepal!
Permítanme presentarme brevemente. Soy Keshab Sigdel, poeta nepalí y profesor de literatura en la Universidad de Tribhuvan.
Aprovecho esta oportunidad para mencionar que he colaborado con varios poetas y escritores colombianos en diversos proyectos de traducción y edición de poesía. Más importante aún, tuve la oportunidad de visitar su hermoso país y asistir al Festival Internacional de Poesía de Medellín en 2023. Al vivir en el extremo opuesto del planeta, he tenido la valiosa oportunidad de comunicarme directamente con el pueblo colombiano y conocer su vasta riqueza cultural y literaria, además de su patrimonio natural e histórico, gracias a este festival. Creo que el Festival de Medellín se ha convertido en un ícono mundial, dando a conocer Colombia al mundo entero. Este festival ha movilizado a cientos de poetas, artistas y gestores culturales, tanto nacionales como internacionales, a lo largo de sus 35 años de trayectoria, consolidándose como uno de los festivales de poesía más importantes del mundo. Ha contribuido enormemente a difundir el patrimonio cultural y artístico de Colombia por todo el planeta.
A pesar de las importantes contribuciones que el Festival realiza a la nación colombiana, a su gente y al mundo entero, acabo de recibir la noticia de que se eliminará la financiación gubernamental anual que recibe. Creo que esto afectará gravemente la importante labor que el Festival lleva a cabo para la promoción de la cultura y la literatura. Como amigo del pueblo colombiano y del país, y como defensor de los poetas colombianos y del Festival, quisiera solicitar al gobierno colombiano y al Ayuntamiento de Medellín que continúen apoyando este noble proyecto literario: el Festival Internacional de Poesía de Medellín.
Espero sinceramente que atiendan mi petición, como amigo del pueblo colombiano y defensor de la nación colombiana. Les agradezco su cooperación.

Let me briefly introduce myself. I am Keshab Sigdel, a Nepali poet and professor of literature at Tribhuvan University.
I take this opportunity to note that I have worked with several Colombian poets and writers in different poetry translation/ editing projects. More importantly, I came to your beautiful country and attended the Medellin International Poetry Festival in 2003.
As I live on the opposite pole of the Earth from your country, I have had rare chances to directly communicate with Colombian people and learn about its vast cultural and literary richness, apart from the natural and historical heritages, through this Festival. I think the Medellin Festival has become a global icon, making Colombia known to people around the world. This Festival has mobilised hundreds of poets, artists and cultural workers at home and abroad in its 35 years of continuous work, and it has also become one of the greatest poetry festivals in the world. It has contributed greatly to spreading Colombia's cultural and artistic heritage to the rest of the world.
Despite the significant contributions the Festival is making to the Colombian nation, its people, and the larger world, I just received the news that the annual government funding provided to the Festival is being eliminated. I believe this will greatly impact the important work the Festival is doing for the promotion of culture and literature. As a good friend of the Colombian people and the country and as a supporter of the Colombian poets and the Festival, I would like to request the Colombian government and the City Council of Medellin to continue their support for this noble literary project- the Medellin International Poetry Festival.
I sincerely hope that you will listen to my appeal as a good friend of the Colombian people and a well-wisher of the Colombian nation. I thank you for your cooperation.
