Poetry as the Heart of Hope and Peace

Poetic thought can flourish in the human spirit during these difficult times.

Poetry is the energy that can create a new spirit and a higher awareness of existence and history. Its words slip inside, opening paths to new realities.

Poetry is the sharp sword of love. Poems are expressions of a new life born of love and lived in celebration against slaughter.

The 36th Medellín International Poetry Festival will be a gathering of beings in harmony with the call to renew our lives and human society. Medellín’s encounter with the deep soul of the world to strengthen spirits in the struggle against an overwhelming reality that seeks to tighten its grip. Poetry is the luminous answer to the insistent question of annihilation.

Sixty guests from 33 nations will participate in 70 readings, dialogues, conferences, courses, and workshops. Medellín is a hub of the global resistance of the spirit.

The poets who have confirmed their participation in this event are: from Africa: Ahmad Al Shahawy, Deema Mahmood (Egypt), Mbizo Chirasha (Zimbabwe), Radhouane Ajroudi (Tunisia), Sara Hamid (Egypt). Poets from America: Dwayne Morgan (Canada), Mirka Arriagada (Chile), Mónica Ojeda (Ecuador); from Colombia: Ángela García, Ayran Riascos Mondragón, Berta Lucía Estrada, Geraldine Marín, Juan Diego Tamayo, Lilian Silva, Luz Helena Cordero, Nataly Domicó (Emberá Eyábida Nation), Omar Gallo, Pedro Arturo Estrada, Samuel Vásquez; Belén Ojeda (Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela), Ronel González Sánchez (Winner of the Gaceta Magazine Award - Prometeo Magazine, Cuba). Asian poets: Abdulla Issa (Palestine), Fida Alhail Alshooqtairai (Qatar), Hussein Habasch (Kurdistan), Khosiyat Rustamova (Uzbekistan), Liu Xunfu (People’s Republic of China), Raja Ahmad Aminullah (Malaysia), Saber Sadipour (Iran), Võ Thị Như Mai (Vietnam/Australia). The Europeans: Alexandra Nicod (Switzerland), Ali Al-Shalah (Switzerland/Iraq), Alvaro Maio, Isilda Nunes (Portugal), Lana Derkač (Croatia), Margarita Al (Russia), Niels Hav (Denmark), Paul Muldoon (Northern Ireland), Sibila Petlevski (Croatia), Stefano Strazzabosco (Italy), Yolanda Castaño (Spain). And the poets from Oceania: Karlo Mila (Tonga), Tayi Tibble (Maori, New Zealand).

In response to the call for submissions, the following national and international poets have confirmed their participation: Alice S. Yousef (Palestine), Ariel Rosé (Poland), Bernard Engel (Spain), Denise León (Argentina), Diana Carolina Daza (Colombia), Imèn Moussa (Tunisia), Leandro Calle (Argentina), León Guerrero (Honduras), Marisol Vera Guerra (Mexico), Tilsa Otta Vildoso (Peru).

The group of Colombian poets selected through the call for submissions by Prometeo Magazine are: Alejandro Zapata, Andrea Quelal (Pueblo de los Pastos), Andrés Felipe Tamayo, Andrew Gil, Cenedith Herrera, Fernanda González, Jorge Iván Agudelo, Luz Adiela Jaramillo, Luis Orlando Valencia, Sebastián Salazar.
